Collapsible content
Analyte | Description | Method/Chemistry | Standard/Equivalance |
---|---|---|---|
Alkalinity, Total | Total alkalinity represents the concentration of bicarbonates, carbonates, and hydroxides that buffer pH changes in water. This test determines alkalinity levels to ensure stability and prevent sudden fluctuations in pH. | Blended indicator | 1 drop = 10 ppm total alkalinity as CaCO₃ |
Bromine, Total | For pools and spas that use bromine instead of chlorine, you can be certain there's enough disinfectant to keep the water clean. | DPD | 1, 2, 4, 6, 10 ppm bromine (Br₂) |
Chlorine, Free & Total | Free chlorine is the active form of chlorine for disinfecting water; testing for it helps ensure adequate levels for sanitization. Total chlorine includes both free and combined chlorine, and is measured to provide a comprehensive evaluation of chlorine presence in the water. Subtracting free chlorine from total provides the combined chlorine reading | DPD | .5, 1, 2, 3, 5 ppm chlorine (Cl₂) |
pH w/ acid demand | w/ acid demand | Phenol red | 6.8, 7.2, 7.5, 7.8, 8.2 |
Very helpful for checking chemicals in our hot tub. I use this along with strips.
After going through multiple test strips and having different results when dipping them in at the same time, we decided to get a Taylor kit. I would have liked a kit with a hardness test, but it's not the end of the world. The acid demand is kind of useless. The instructions say to do the test and take the results in to your local pool place. I got the kit so I could avoid going to the pool place.Expiry dates on the reagents were good too.
I've always used the 2-way test kits for my pool, yet decided to switch to a more comprehensive test after some research. This one is great! I based my purchase upon other reviews and am not disappointed. There are so many other variables to pool chemical balancing besides just pH and chlorine levels. This kit is ready to use and the instruction sheet is informative. I wish the instruction paper was laminated though.
My water has never looked so clear until I started using this test kit! Definitely more reliable than test strip kits
Used this for balancing the water chemistry in our hot tub. Very simple to use and directions are easy to understand. Only wish it also had water hardness testing.
